Don Johnson's Photography, the business, got its start in 2006. However, Don Johnson's photography, the skill of visual communication, got its start in the late 1970's through drawing comic books.
Then as a young electrical engineer, Don didn't have time to spend four to twelve hours creating a single image. So he turned to the Pentax K1000 camera that his mother bought him for his birthday.

Developing the skill was a personal endeavor. So he got a chance to study graphic design and photography without impact from daily work. But in the early 1990's his business began shifting towards verbal, written, and visual communication. Then all the personal study began integrating into his professional work.
